As the name suggests—Yum—one would expect the food to live up to it. But, honestly, I had never come across this place before, nor did I ever have the urge to try Asian cuisine. In fact, I can’t even recall noticing this restaurant in any mall before 2021. Maybe it was there all along, blending into the background, or perhaps I wasn’t paying attention.
Then, sometime in late 2021, this very restaurant finally caught my eye—in DLF Promenade, no less. To my surprise, it had been around since 2018! Lol where had I been all this time? What failed to intrigue me before now seemed oddly fascinating.
Curious, I decided to step in with my friend. The moment we entered, we were greeted by a mix of aromatic spices, a warm ambiance, and an Origami-inspired theme—a detail that instantly made the place stand out. We found ourselves a cozy sofa seating, settled in, and picked up the menu. A quick glance at the prices made me raise an eyebrow—it was definitely on the higher side compared to our usual café outings. But hey, we were here for the experience, and there was no turning back now.
As I sit here reminiscing about my visits to Yum Yum Cha, I find myself scrolling through my Instagram story archives—because let’s be real, I’m a click first, eat later kind of person. My Instagram has it all—the dishes I devoured, the number of times I visited, and the aesthetic shots that made my foodie heart happy. (And no, don’t think I wasn’t smart enough to just check Yum Yum Cha’s inbox with the number of times I’ve tagged them!)
From my first visit, two dishes stood out:
🍛 Green Thai Curry with Steamed Rice – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Playing it safe, we ordered this as our first-ever dish. And wow, it did not disappoint! The flavors were perfectly balanced, the portion size was generous for two, and it was comfort food at its best.
🍕 Avocado Spicy Pizza – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Now, this was a game-changer! My friend wasn’t a fan, but for me—an avocado lover through and through—this was pure heaven. The lightness, the fresh avocado slices, the perfect crunch... ugh, so yum!
I wish I could give you a precise number of my visits, but let’s just say they were many—somewhere between "I lost count" and "the staff probably recognizes me now." Every time, we made sure to try one classic favorite and two new dishes just to keep things exciting.
Now, onto the next visit…
No, the Pan-Asian experience is complete without a dim sum feast, right? So, we made sure to try a few veggie-friendly options:
🥟 Cantonese Veg Dimsum – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ingredients: Beans, baby corn, water chestnut.
A light yet flavorful bite with a slight crunch from the water chestnut. Classic and comforting!
🥟 Edamame & Truffle Dimsum – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ingredients: Edamame beans, truffle oil, warm soy sauce.
The truffle oil added that extra oomph, making it a unique choice. Perfectly steamed, soft, and packed with umami goodness.
I couldn’t go all out on the dim sum options, though—because let’s be real, most of them are non-veg or have mushrooms (and I’m allergic to mushrooms!). Since the stuffing was pre-made, I had to stick to the safe zone. But whatever I did try was worth it!
Sushi Time! – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Half roll: 585/-
Full roll: 985/-
Now tell me, can you even say you’ve had Pan-Asian food without sushi? Nope, no chance! So, obviously, we went ahead and ordered some veg sushi rolls, and here’s how it went:
🍣 Asparagus Tempura Roll
Ingredients: Asparagus, tempura, chilies, mayo.
If you’re new to sushi, this is the safest bet. Asparagus sushi is everywhere, and honestly, it’s a solid choice to ease into the world of sushi.
🍣 Midori Roll
Ingredients: Avocado, cucumber, iceberg, mayo, roasted butter.
Saw avocado on the ingredients list? Boom! Ordered it. No second thoughts.
🍣 Krunchy Kale Roll
Ingredients: Crispy kale, shichimi, cucumber, avocado.
Not gonna lie—I had to Google the Hindi word for kale (don’t judge me 😭). Turns out it’s leaf cabbage. Ever had that moment where you know a word, it’s right there, but your brain just refuses to pull it out? Yeah, that happened. This roll was crunchy, fresh, and had a mild spice that worked well with the creamy avocado.
🍣 Spicy Avocado Roll
Ingredients: Avocado, tobanjan, shichimi, tempura flakes.
Do I even need to explain why I ordered this? It has avocado. Enough said.
Salads & Cold Plates Corner 🥗
🥢 Crispy Lotus Root – ⭐️⭐️⭐️
A guilt-free pick, tossed in a tamarind dressing. While I did enjoy the crispiness, it leaned too sweet for my liking. Plus, we felt surprisingly heavy after eating this—so maybe not the best option if you're looking for something light.
Now, Let’s Talk Starters! 🍽️
🥢 Crispy Orange Tofu – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ingredients: Orange, garlic, sesame.
This one was an unexpected winner. The tofu was light, airy, and melted in the mouth, while the crispy coating added a great crunch. The only catch? It was super sweet. But since we had paired it with spicier dishes, it worked as a great palate cleanser.
🥢 Philly Cheese Wontons – ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Not gonna lie; the first one didn’t impress me much. But by the second and third, I started warming up to them. They reminded me of those cheese-filled cigar rolls—crispy outside, cheesy inside. If you're a cheese lover, this might just be your thing.
🥢 Sweet Potato Fries – ⭐️⭐️.5
Let me tell you, this was the heaviest thing we’ve ever ordered here. The portion size? Too much. We couldn’t finish it and had to get it packed. I remember having this on my second visit, and now, even after my 10th visit, I still haven’t ordered it again. Lesson learned. 😅
Closing Thoughts – Until Part 2!
I know, I know—this review is turning into a full-blown food diary, but blame the 11-page-long menu! I swear I’m drooling while writing this. 🤤
But let’s wrap it up here for now before you all decide to ditch this midway.
If you haven’t been to Yum Yum Cha yet, I’d highly recommend giving it a shot! And when you do, drop your reviews—I’d love to hear what you think.
